Exhibition “Women Artists. Breaking Down Barriers, 1965-2000” Works from the collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec Untill October 10, 2010

50 women artists. 110 remarkable works produced between 1965 and 2000. During those 35 years, women were actively involved in the major art movements. They trained a critical eye on their surroundings and on themselves. They engaged, liberated and asserted themselves. They broke down barriers. The works have been selected from among the some 2,600 pieces by women in the collection of Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

Upcoming exhibiting artist Stephen Talasnik will be launching his new outdoor commission, Stream: A Folded Drawing, at the Storm King sculpture park in New York this weekend. Talasnik is participating in the exhibition 5+5: New Perspectives which also features work by Alice Aycock, John Bisbee, Chakaia Booker, Mark di Suvero, Andy Goldsworthy, Maria Elena Gonsalex, Darrell Petit, Alyson Shotz, and Ursula von Rydingsvard.

This exhibition is part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Storm King.

“Stephen Talasnik’s Stream: A Folded Drawing (2009–2010) was made especially for installation at Storm King. This vast site-specific construction consists of some 3,000 bamboo poles tied together to form a monumental yet intricate structure some 12 feet high by 90 feet long. Roughly kidney-shaped in footprint, it appears to be rolling down the hill on which it is sited. Visitors will be able to walk inside the structure to experience the work, as well as others that are visible through its armature, from a variety of perspectives.”
