For over 20 years Montreal-based writer and curator John Grande has contributed his views on art to a variety of arts publications including Artforum, Sculpture (USA), Art on Paper, Vie des Arts, Espace Sculpture, Vice Versa and Canadian Forum.

Recently a broad spectrum of John Grande’s interviews and writings on art, sculpture, photography, public art, and ecology have been brought together in two volumes titled Art Allsorts; Writings on Art & Artists. To celebrate the publication of John Grande’s latest, Battat Contemporary has invited John Grande to be present for a signing on Saturday December 12th at 2pm.

The Landscape Changes, a recent collection of John Grande’s poetry , with original illustrations by West Coast artist Arnold Shives will likewise have its Montreal launch for this occasion at Battat Contemporary. Produced by Gaspereau Press in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and published by Prospect Press, The Landscape Changes is limited to an edition of 200, and will be signed by the artist Arnold Shives and the writer John Grande.

Other books and productions produced in recent years will likewise be on view, and available for purchase, including Stonehenge & Avebury, an earlier collaboration between Shives and Grande that won an Alcuin Society Award last year.

Grier Edmundson: The Work Ahead of Us, vernissage le 5 novembre

Publié no_time

Mulehalftone_default

Watch out for our next exhibition The Work Ahead of Us, by Montreal based artist Grier Edmundson – opening Thursday November 5, at 6pm. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Edmundson’s work has been in numerous exhibitions including solo projects in the US and Europe. His practice is engaged in a dialogue about our current relationship to the image. Edmundson coaxes the audience to look beyond their presumptions to conceive of a new reading of subjects and their histories. Drawing from the literary model of the short story, each installation becomes a non-definitive narrative. Grier often selects understated icons that are at a slight remove from the images that represent key moments in pop history. This creates a gap between our immediate identification of the image, which is tinged with a knowing, self-aware nostalgia and its place in history.

Check out Allison Katz in the New Museum’s Younger Than Jesus Artist Directory.

Celebrating the present and anticipating the future of contemporary art, Younger Than Jesus: Artist Directory introduces over 500 of the best artists under thirty-three years of age from around the world, represented in 544 pages by both short biographies and more than 2,000 color illustrations of artwork.

Edited by Lauren Cornell, Massimiliano Gioni, and Laura Hoptman and assembled by a worldwide team of curators, writers, teachers, critics, and artists during the research phase of the New Museum’s new Triennial exhibition, “Younger Than Jesus,” the publication captures an imminent generational change in art, exploring how artists from the same age group can and cannot develop similar interests and express similar—and dissimilar—concerns across geographies and nationalities.

An indispensable handbook for curators, collectors, dealers, and critics, Younger Than Jesus: Artist Directory also serves as an unparalleled visual guide for anyone interested in the latest artistic innovations.
